I work at the intersection of architecture, art, design, and theory. One of my primary areas of concern is the relationship between comportment and the built environment—bodily habit and architectural habitation—and the ongoing legacy of this interaction from the modern era to the present. An attention to habit allows me to recast fundamental issues such as technological reproducibility, virtuality, repetition, reflection, and transparency, in order to rethink the equiprimordial relationship between dwelling and ethics for our time. Related to this, I am interested in how representation is born out through disposition and mood, and how the production and design of environments intervene on our sensorial engagement with the world. This set of interlocking concerns drives my work across its multiple interests and time periods. My research and publications have been engaged in challenging given accounts of modernism and postmodernism, in order to rethink the history of art and architecture from the 19th century to the present. | |
